After getting through security, I power-walked to the gate, arriving just as they were boarding First Class. Catching my breath, I noticed 2 people in Red Cross polos. [Volunteer 1] and [Volunteer 2] were also on their first DRO. They mentioned that a 4th volunteer was already on-board. We agreed to meet up after the flight as we were likely traveling together to the hotel.
When we got to the gate, the Gate Agent thanked us for helping with the impending disaster, and asked us to "be safe."
We then made our way down the Jet Bridge and boarded. We passed the 4th volunteer, and I made my way to the tail of the plane. Unbeknownst to me, I was seated in the middle of a large family all going to a cruise leaving from Orlando tomorrow. I asked how the cruise was going to leave dock with a hurricane incoming, and they said that it was forecast to go north of Orlando and they were headed south.
The flight was largely uneventful. Albeit with some turbulence, especially on take-off and landing. I was starting to become incoherent from lack of sleep, and tried to take a nap. I may have gotten an hour in before landing.
Upon leaving the terminal, I found myself inside the atrium of an Embassy Suites style hotel. I have heard of hotels on the grounds of an airport, but never seen one inside the airport itself. One whole side of the atrium was dedicated to a TSA checkpoint, and another to the escalators to baggage claim and the like.
