Day 3 in review

HQ has more than doubled in size since 2 days ago.  Each department which use to have 1 or 2 tables has now expanded, some as big as 10 tables with as many as 4 volunteers per table.

The groups have become more specific too.  Mass Care now has Feeding, Sheltering, Reunification, Spiritual Care, Mental Health, Disability Integration, etc.  Public affairs now includes Media Relations, Government Relations, Community Engagement, Fundraising, etc.

The library quiet environment has been replaced with the buzz of dozens of meetings, phone calls and conference calls, sprinkled around the room.  All the outlets are used, with extension cords crisscrossing, and power strips daisy chained in seemingly random fashion.  Various news crews come drop in from time-to-time.

The only things unchanged in the room are the circle tables in the middle, and the snacks / refreshments against one wall.

My main responsibility has been to add tables, computers, and power strips as people arrive, issue cell phones, and fix various issues that crop up.

At this point we have gotten so big, that it is overloading the ad-hoc network we set up, and it is time to switch to a server/client architecture.  This will involve taking down the old network, and re-configuring all the laptops at once.  I started by setting up the server on a separate network.  On standby to finish this project.

Went back to the hotel, a few of us gathered in one of the rooms for some r&r.  Leftover pizza, soda, music.  Was a nice end to the day.
